How To Use This Site
Choose your preferred swim date, time and place and the data model will produce a score of “swimability” between 0-100 for your chosen beach and swim time.
The model used to assess “swimability” does not just analyse generic weather conditions. It incorporates metrics such as predicted wave height, wind speed, gust profile and wind direction which are then, in turn, weighted against the orientation and degree of shelter of each beach included in the site.
Further, dynamic risk controls are also applied to the model to allow for contingencies such as rain runoff, water quality, storm probability, cold-water stress, UV rating, tidal movement and recent marine-biological observations. This analysis then provides a reasonable estimate of swimability.
Based on the findings of the model, each beach included in this site is then given an overall assessment of swimmable conditions, being: Good, Fair or Poor.

Important Safety Disclaimer
SeaSense is an independent guidance tool and is not an official EPA Victoria service. You should always check official EPA Victoria guidance before you swim, including beach report forecast ratings and alerts: EPA Victoria Check Air and Water Quality. EPA forecasts are updated during the day and alerts may change.
This site provides general information only. Environmental and on-site conditions can change quickly and you are responsible for your own decision whether or not to swim. Always verify conditions using official sources and conduct checks on-site before entering the water.
If there has been recent rain (or rain is forecast), visible stormwater runoff, a strong odour, discoloured water or pollution present, you should postpone your swim. For health protection, you should avoid swallowing water and avoid swimming near stormwater drains, and you should not swim if you feel unwell or unsafe. In an emergency, call 000.
